Tony Khan, AEW & ROH head, spoke to the media Thursday for an hour to promote Friday’s ROH death before dishonor. He said he had heard WWE PR people spreading lies about his television rights deal.
Khan added the accusation after answering a specific question. He said he had heard from a prominent wrestler media person that WWE PR told others he had a deal already in place similar to the one he currently has with WBD. He denied this and said AEW would have a great deal, with a large increase regardless of what WWE tells people.
He also confirmed he’s still in the exclusive window of negotiations with WBD. He continues to have positive discussions about a new agreement, but there is no timetable.
Khan was also questioned about his opinion on chair shots to the face that were not protected, such as the one Jack Perry received in the Blood & Guts Match. Khan did not want to reveal the “art” or secrets of wrestling and he stood by the health of his wrestlers after violent matches.
Other notes:
- Khan said ROH has come up in conversation during the WBD media rights talks.
- Khan said there will be more matches added to Death Before Dishonor.
- Khan said the recent Jay White and Dalton Castle injuries caused a domino effect on the card as did the Skye Blue injury. He adds he gets more criticism for 5-6 match cards than if other companies did the same and that he gets more criticism in general.
