Tony Khan is pleased with the progress of AEW’s talks with Warner Bros. Discovery is looking for a new media rights deal.

Khan was asked in an interview conducted by the Battleground Podcast this week before Dynamite about AEW and WBD’s talks, and how close they are to a deal. Khan said that there are many things to work out and the talks will be complex, but AEW is in “deep, exciting conversations” with WBD. He called WBD a good partner and said their conversations are awesome.

“This is a very exciting time for AEW. Warner Bros. and AEW are having great conversations. Discovery. It’s a blessing for me and, I believe, everyone in AEW that we can put wrestling on TBS or TNT every week. As a child, wrestling on TBS or TNT was an important part of my childhood, and I’m sure it was for you too. It had been 18 years since wrestling was last shown on TNT and 20 years since wrestling was last seen on TBS. So, it was a big deal to bring this back. This tradition dates back more than 50 years, especially on TBS. I love it. We’re having some great conversations. This is a huge accomplishment. We’re having very deep and exciting conversations. Khan said: “There’s a lot of things to figure out, because we have great shows like AEW Dynamite Rampage and Collision.”

“Our flagship shows [Dynamite and Collision ] have been receiving great ratings. It’s an exciting time. As I said, both shows had their best week in months this past weekend. It’s exciting to reach new heights. Conversations are going great right now. There’s a ton to figure out, from AEW TV, our pay per view content, our streaming service, and other things. It’s been a lot of complex conversations but they have been great. We’re in great talks with Warner Bros. Discovery is now. It’s an excellent partnership, and we are very fortunate to be in this location. TBS and TNT are great for wrestling.”

AEW programming was first broadcast on WBD stations starting in 2019. The current agreement is expected to expire around the end of the year/beginning of 2025.

Khan said that the finalizing of the new deal will mean that all the investment made in AEW has more than paid for itself.
