Darby Allin thinks the current AEW product represents a vast improvement over the early years of the promotion.
Allin, who is considered a pillar in the AEW team, has been with the organization since its founding. He told Uproxx the shows AEW now offers “are just so better” than what they used to offer. Allin believes that the early stages of AEW was about figuring out what to do. Now, the wrestlers that weren’t good enough have been removed from the promotion.
“The shows just are so much better.” Allin said, “I feel like you have to throw crap on the wall for the first couple of years and see what sticks.”
“To get on Dynamite you have to be really good. It’s not ‘Oh, I know this guy, so let’s give him a little handout and put him on the program’ anymore. You have to put up, perform and really work hard if you want to get on the show. Many of the bad actors were eliminated in the first two years.”
Dynamite celebrated the 250th episode of its first season in October last week. Will Ospreay was one of the newest additions to AEW’s roster and wrestled in a match lasting nearly 60 minutes. MJF defeated Ospreay and became the new AEW International Champion.
Allin described the Ospreay vs. MJF game as “a crazy hour.” “This isn’t a spring break to hang out with your buddies. We’re putting all of our souls into that ring. “If you don’t carry that chip on your shoulders, I will not allow you to enter the locker room.”
Allin will compete in Blood & Guts On Dynamite on Wednesday. Team AEW will be battling against Team Elite (The Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada, Jack Perry & Hang Page) on Wednesday. Team Elite (The Young Bucks Kazuchika Okada Jack Perry Hangman Page) will be battling against Team AEW.
