Shawn Michaels wants Trick Williams to thrive on the WWE main roster.
Michaels recently told Sports Illustrated that although Williams may be “main roster ready”, the goal is to have him be a top-player in the company.
Michaels said, “I read in social media that he is already a main-roster player.” “I don’t think that’s Trick’s goal. He doesn’t just want to exist on the main team, he wants to thrive there as a key player. I admire his maturity and wisdom. “He’s a pleasure to work with and I’m eager to see what he’ll do next.”
Michaels continued by saying that Williams reminds of Scott Hall, one of his closest friends and greatest rivals. He says that Williams is like Hall in that he’s deceptively tall, but doesn’t have a big-man’s style.
Michaels said, “It is interesting that Scott was a big man who never worked hard.” “Just last week, I said, “Trick, you are just deceptively tall and big. I can’t even imagine having to slam someone. It’s like having a 10-foot stepladder slammed on you. He’s about 245 pounds and over 6’3”. “We’ll discuss the Scott analogy.”
“That’s the very first time I heard of a connection between them. That’s why working with Scott was so great. He would have no problem taking a tackle and shooting off from me. Trick is the same. You forget how large he is.”
“It’s funny. I never put Scott in a category with Kevin Nash as a big man because of the way Scott wrestled. Kevin Nash wrestled in a very innovative way, too. Scott could have wrestled as a big man and gotten away with, but he didn’t. “That’s what made Scott so special.”
Williams lost the NXT Championship at Heatwave in Toronto, earlier this month. The match was a four-way match and the main event of the show. The following Tuesday, he and Joe Hendry won a tag team match against Page and Shawn Spears. Williams did not appear on NXT this week, but a video was aired narrated Hendry that highlighted how well the pair worked together the week before.
