WWE could be adding a top-notch free agent tag team into its ranks.
Motor City Machine Guns, Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin, entered free agency after their TNA Wrestling contract expired in April. The veteran tag-team has spoken with both WWE, and AEW. However, it appears that WWE is more likely to be their destination.
“Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley will be coming to [WWE], at least, that’s what the talk is within wrestling. Nobody has officially announced anything. They wrestled in an independent show on 7/12 in a singles bout against each other, which Sabin won in Portland, OR for Prestige Wrestling, and then said their goodbyes in the ring to indie wrestling. Meltzer wrote that they were announced for a Smash Wrestling show on 8/18 in London, ON against Evil Uno & Stu Greyson at the Music Hall. It’s been well-known for months that they have been in talks with AEW or WWE since their TNA contract expired. In recent months, it was clear that WWE had made the better deal. However, they were expected to go with whichever party made the best offer. Tommaso Ciampa, a wrestler who is known for his social media posts, made a comment about them. Within the wrestling community there is a belief that they will be joining WWE. They’ve been silent about it as well and clearly made their decision.”
Motor City Machine Guns were tag team champions for TNA, ROH and NJPW as well as several independent promotions. Shelley has held the TNA World Championship and Sabin has held ten X-Division titles in their singles careers.
Shelley and KUSHIDA competed in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament of NXT in 2020. Sabin has never worked for WWE.
