The WWE SummerSlam next month will see the heated rivalry between Cody Rhodes, The Bloodline and The Bloodline continue as the promotion announced on Wednesday that Rhodes would defend his Universal title in a match against Solo Sikoa.
Rhodes agreed to this bout at the end last Friday’s SmackDown. This was subject to GM Nick Aldis approving the storyline. Rhodes, Sikoa, and the other members of The Bloodline then got into a brawl. Randy Orton tried to help Rhodes but was taken down and put through the table while Rhodes was forced watch.
The PLE will take place on Saturday, August 3, at Cleveland, Ohio’s Browns Stadium.
After Roman Reigns was defeated by Rhodes at WrestleMania this year, the former record-setting champ has disappeared. Sikoa then elevated himself to the position of Tribal Chief in the rapidly changing faction, which now includes Tonga Loa (the former champion), Tama Tonga (the current leader) and Jacob Fatu.
Sikoa pins Rhodes in a trios match at Money in the Bank this month to set the match in motion. The two have wrestled each other several times since March 20,23, with two of those matches being broadcast on TV (Raw March 2023 and SmackDown June 2024). Sikoa is yet to defeat him.
Since his WrestleMania victory, Rhodes has successfully defended the title on three occasions.
