Cody Rhodes said that the end of his tenure in AEW had been “terrible.”

Rhodes was recently asked about his experience in the company by Chris Van Vliet. Rhodes was reluctant to criticize AEW but admitted that there were “petty squabbles”, which took place behind the scenes.

“How AEW finished was terrible. People will write books and these stories will get out and then it’s a whole different ballgame,” Rhodes stated.

He then compared the situation in AEW with the ending of The Dark Knight.

“I’m comparing myself with Batman, but there’s a part of it that is really important. For certain fans of the AEW fandom they need the story that they didn’t want to me, and they pushed me away. They need the story that ‘he was bad’. They want me to be the villain. I was fine with that because I respect (AEW) and how difficult it was for me to do the original All In. I also respected how incredible the feeling was when I did Double or Nothing. We were fortunate that Tony Khan wanted to invest in our vision.

“I will always love it, regardless of any petty quarrels. I got to wrestle Brodie’s final match. I got to be a leader, a young person behind the scenes. I will always love it.”

Rhodes admits that he knew that his time at AEW would be temporary and that he had other options.

“I remember (AEW), lovingly. I also knew that I was leaving. I knew this was only a temporary situation. I knew it wasn’t going last and that there was something better for me out there. It’s not negative at all. “That’s the biggest prize of the wrestling game.”

“I had nothing but admiration for my time there. It was the same as Hulkamania, in the AWA, right before it went to WWE. The energy was there and the renaissance wasn’t company-based. It was all there, and I love it because I sharpened my skills. By the time I reached WrestleMania or WWE I felt like I was a complete package.”

After some convincing, Rhodes agreed that he would say something negative and “juicy”. Rhodes said that he didn’t like a part of The Young Bucks memoir “Killing The Business”, which stated that he was the final one to sign up with AEW.

“I was upset that they said in The Young Bucks book that I was the last to sign. It’s a big deal. Some AEW defenders don’t realize that they are turning people away from their product. It’s one thing that people always say, Oh, he came last, he didn’t matter to the origin. No. This guy, who is off camera, was the first person ever to meet Tony. He met him as part of a vetting procedure for us all. So, yes, I suppose I was the last, and yes, my thoughts were different, and what they said is not wrong at all. It’s not wrong, but I was in on it just as anyone else.”
