Bryan Danielson, the 2024 men’s Owen Hart Cup champion, knows exactly which traits of his trophy’s nameake he wants to embody.
Danielson recently told Sports Illustrated that Hart’s ability to put his family before himself is what makes him someone that he aspires towards.
Danielson said, “Owen Hart was my favorite as a teenager. This is a very special occasion.” “I love hearing how much he loved and cared for his family. They were on the road for 300 days a yea. When I hear stories about him finding one extra day at home, it means a lot.
“Wasn’t he a professional wrestler of incredible talent? Yes, of course. Was he funny? Everyone says he is. You can see it on his promos. “But I want to embody how he put his family before himself.”
Danielson defeated Hangman page in the finals on Dynamite. After the match, he received the Owen Hart Cup, a championship belt, and Dr. Martha Hart’s eulogy. Jeff Jarrett also gave him the Owen Hart Cup.
Danielson said, “It’s an honor to be a part of the Owen Hart Memorial Foundation Tournament.” “It’s really inspirational to me what Martha Hart did with this tragedy and how she helped so many people – and raised her children. She earned her doctorate. She has two wonderful children and is an amazing parent. “That’s what I aspire too.”
Martha Hart founded the Owen Hart Foundation after her husband’s passing in May 1999. The charity offers programs to help people with limited resources find housing and scholarships. They also raise money to support international aid efforts, food drives and other special projects. Find out more about the work of the foundation here.
Danielson, who defeated Page on Dynamite the previous week, cut a promotional video calling Martha Hart as well an inspiration.
“I am proud to have won The Owen because Owen Hart has meant so much in professional wrestling. He was a great example of what it meant to be a wrestling father. What it means to prioritize your family. Right? Danielson replied: “That’s what Owen Hart is saying.”
“But as Martha shakes my hand and gives me the trophy – we call this Owen Hart Memorial Foundation Tournament, but I am just as proud to clap her hand. She’s a great mother who raised her children on her own. She also started the Owen Hart Memorial Foundation. All the good she has done. Getting her doctorate. Her children are now such wonderful people. This is inspiring to me. Not because I can’t do it anymore, or because I’m not a good enough parent — but because I want be the kind of parent Martha Hart is. That’s why i’m giving up full-time wrestling.”
Oje Hart, Martha and Owen Hart’s son, shared a special moment during AEW’s visit to Calgary last week. He said he has never felt closer with his father than when he participates in AEW events with the Owen Hart Foundation.
Jarrett was told by Oje that “a lot of time has passed since he left, but I have never felt closer to my father since doing these things. It’s good for both of us.” “It really hits hard. “It’s probably hitting you the same way that it’s hitting me, so thank you, man.”
