In an interview with SportsGrid, Tony Khan was asked what a new deal for media rights would mean for AEW.
AEW has a current deal with Warner Bros. Discovery’s contract is set to expire in 2024. Khan said that the two sides were “approaching” the goal line in their negotiations. He told SportsGrid a finalized deal would mean all the investment made in AEW has more than paid off.
“It will be a big thing. All the investment in AEW will have more than paid for itself. It will mean a very stable future for AEW in the very near future,” Khan said. “We’re getting a great deal on media rights.” We’re having some great conversations. Warner Bros. is a great place for us. Discovery and, you’ll know, I believe this is a wonderful home for us. I’m so happy they want us to remain. We’re having some great conversations and they’ve made us some great offers. There’s a lot to talk about, but with five hours of WWE every week and streaming. It’s very exciting to see what the future holds for AEW.”
Khan expressed his desire to continue working with Warner Bros. Discovery has been around for a very long time.
“We’re having wonderful conversations with Warner Bros. Discovery. “Mr. [David] Zaslav has been great, very involved,” he said. “We’re trying our best to figure it out. It’s a complicated thing. It’s an important media rights package and I am very excited to continue working — hopefully for a very long time — with Warner Bros. Discovery. We are having a wonderful time here, and we have an excellent relationship with the management. Mr. Zaslav has been wonderful to us.”
