Bryan Danielson finds Dr. Martha Hart to be an inspiration.
Danielson was crowned winner of the Owen Hart Foundation 2024 men’s tournament last night after defeating Hangman Page. Martha shared a moment with him after the match, when she presented the trophy. Danielson also earned a shot at the AEW World championship against Swerve Strickland in All In 2024.
In a post-show promotional video, Danielson said that he was honored to win not only because of Owen Hart but also because of Martha Hart and the Owen Hart Foundation. He sees Martha as an example and wants to be a parent like her.
“I’m very proud of my work.” I’m also proud of my win of The Owen, because Owen Hart was so important to professional wrestling. He was a great example of what it meant to be a wrestling father. What it means to prioritize your family. Right? Danielson replied: “That’s what Owen Hart is saying.”
“But as Martha shakes my hand and gives me the trophy – we call this Owen Hart Memorial Foundation Tournament, but I am just as proud to clap her hand. She’s done a lot as a single mother, she raised her kids all by herself and she started the Owen Hart Memorial Foundation. All the good she has done. Getting her doctorate. Her children are now such wonderful people. This is inspiring to me. Not because I can’t do it anymore, or because I’m not good at it — but because I want be the kind of parent Martha Hart is. That’s why i’m giving up full-time wrestling.”
Danielson is in his final year as a wrestler. He wants to win AEW’s World Championship at All In so he can show his family he is the best in the business.
“I can’t go out anymore because I’m unable to do this.” Danielson said, “I want to show my family and kids that I am the best in the motherf*cking universe.” “I’m not stopping just because I can’t stand anymore, I’m doing it because I love my children so much.” We talk about Owen Hart. Martha started the Owen Hart Foundation after Owen’s passing in 1999. It supports local, regional, and international communities with housing, scholarship, and partnership programs.
In 2021, AEW and Owen Hart Foundation formed a partnership. Since 2022, the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament has been held every year.
Mariah May, who won the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s tournament on Sunday night, will face Toni Storm in the AEW World Championship at All In. The pay-per view will be held at Wembley Stadium, London on Sunday August 25.
