Jeff Jarrett appreciates the opportunity to be a part of AEW Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
Jarrett, who was Owen’s closest friend in wrestling, was a fan favorite in this year’s tourney and gave a heartfelt speech about how much his late friend meant for him. Jarrett, who lost to Hangman in the first round of the tournament, will still be a part of the finals as the special enforcer for Bryan Danielson and Page. Page.
Jarrett said to Sports Illustrated, “I never thought we’d be where we are today.” “I get the opportunity to introduce my friend, to a whole new generation of wrestlers.”
Since 2022, AEW and the Owen Hart Foundation have partnered to present this tournament every year. The 2024 finals will be held in Calgary this Wednesday on Dynamite with Danielson vs. Page will be competing on the men’s team, while Willow Nightingale and Mariah May will be competing on the women’s team.
Martha Hart founded the Owen Hart Foundation after her husband died in 1999. It supports local communities, national communities, and international ones through housing, scholarship, and partnership programs. Jarrett told Sports Illustrated that he is happy to see Owen being recognized as a person as well as a wrestler.
“It makes my very emotional. In May 1999, I had no idea that I would still be in the ring today, which is a blessing that I could never have imagined. Or that Owen’s wife would create the Owen Hart Foundation that does so much good in the world. Owen’s children have grown up and represent their father with pride,” Jarrett said.
“I am so happy that Owen is being recognized for his achievements as a father and family man, as a husband, brother, and professional wrestler. We’re doing it in Calgary – a place that was very important to him.
Jarrett and Owen were tag-team partners, winning the WWF Tag Team titles together one time.
The winner of Danielson Vs. Page will face Swerve Strickland in the AEW World championship at All In next week. Jarrett praised Danielson highly in his Sports Illustrated article, saying that Danielson was “the epitome” of professional wrestling.
Jarrett stated, “It is the wrestler who eliminated me against a wrestler who I don’t think has a peer in the current full-time active wrestlers.” “I don’t mean to be disrespectful, but I do not think Bryan Danielson is a peer. He is the epitome professional wrestling. Bryan’s storytelling is out of this world, his passion and his physicality are all top-notch. I am incredibly grateful to be a part of this.”
