Mariah May, who won Friday’s AEW Rampage is now one step closer to a matchup with AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm and her friend.
May defeated Hikaru Shida, a former AEW Women’s Champion, in a semifinal match to advance to the finals of the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament. She will face last year’s winner Willow Nightingale in this Wednesday’s Dynamite, from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The winner will then challenge Storm at August’s All In, from London’s Wembley Stadium.
May has not yet secured a shot at the AEW title in her short tenure. Nightingale, on the other hand, had her last chance against Shida when she was champion last November. She also faced Storm unsuccessfully for the title last year at Forbidden Door.
It remains to be seen how a win by May and the title opportunity it would bring her relationship with Storm. Storm was ringside when May won the match with a pin counter against a Shida Katana.
May defeated Saraya in the opening round while Shida defeated Serena Deeb to advance to the semifinals.
