Punk was terminated by AEW for cause in September.

CM Punk surprised everyone by making his surprise return to WWE Survivor Series on Saturday.

The familiar strains of “Cult of Personality” hit as Punk, dressed simply in a white tee-shirt and jeans, came out to Chicago’s Allstate Arena, where he received an incredible ovation.

Punk listened to the cheers and stared at the men in ring. He then said, “It’s time for clobberin! As the show ended, Punk made a gesture.

Punk, who famously left WWE in 2014, was not afraid to air his displeasure, including with Paul “Triple H Levesque” and other members of WWE, including now-former WWE Doctor Chris Amann. Amann sued Punk and Colt Cabana in 2014 for defamation after a podcast Punk and Cabana recorded that year, where Punk criticized Amann’s treatment. Punk said in that podcast that he was fired by WWE on his wedding day via FedEx.

Punk returned to AEW after a break of nearly seven years in August 2021, on a Rampage from Chicago United Center. He won the AEW world title twice while he was there.

Punk was fired for cause by AEW on September 2nd after an altercation between Jack Perry and Punk at the August All In at London’s Wembley Stadium. This ended a turbulent year for Punk, who was involved in a fight on the backstage of All Out 2022 with Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks.

Punk, who had recovered from a torn left triceps sustained at All Out, returned to host the new AEW collision show in July, taking the lead both on screen and behind the scene.

Punk has not yet publicly spoken about the firing.
