This week, on WWE Speed, a new competition was launched to determine the first contender for Andrade.
Xavier Woods beat Dijak and advanced to the next round in the tournament for the number one contender. Woods won by a diving elbow-drop with 10 seconds remaining on the three minute clock. The match was taped before Raw’s June 10 episode in Toledo, Ohio.
The other match in the first round of the contenders’ tournament is Akira Tozawa against NXT’s Nathan Frazer. This match will be shown on the WWE Speed episode, which premieres on X/Twitter next Wednesday at noon Eastern time. The winner will face Woods next week.
Andrade won the WWE Speed Title by dethroning Ricochet, the inaugural champion in a match aired on Friday. Ricochet is likely to be leaving WWE soon, so that match may have been the last time he competed for the company.
Woods and Kofi Kingston are currently feuding on Raw with Karrion Kross and The Final Testament. Kross is trying to create a rift between New Day, and Woods and Kingston.
