Jeff Cobb, the reigning and defending NJPW television champion, wants to fight in this month’s AEW x NJPW forbidden door.
Cobb, who won the title against Tomohiro ishii at yesterday’s NJPW Dominion event, spoke at a press conference after the event and said, “If you are elite, challenge me.”
As of right now, none of The Elite’s members have matches scheduled for the Sunday, 23rd of June pay-per view that fuses talents of AEW, NJPW, Stardom, and possibly CMLL.
“The golden belt, which symbolizes NJPW TV, is calling.” “I’ll make you rich,” he said.
Cobb has held his title for just under a month, after he defeated Zack Sabre Jr. in May’s Wrestling Dontaku. He also won the defenses against Lance Archer and Ishii.
Cobb has never competed in a solo match in the short history of Forbidden Door. He lost in an IWGP and ROH Tag Team title 4-way at the first edition, then fell in defeat in a threes bout last season. Including these bouts, he’s wrestled six times for AEW, most recently in a tag-team match last month.
This was the second such challenge for the show on Saturday, as the aforementioned Sabre Jr. challenged Orange Cassidy and has not yet been answered.
