The executive producer of a popular independent production based in Worcester, Massachusetts, has been suspended indefinitely.
Beyond Wrestling issued a statement on Friday stating that Jon Roy has been suspended for violating the promotion’s code regarding derogatory words. A user on X shared a screenshot of Roy’s alleged comment. Roy wrote, “For the first year, that ugly bald man in a dress will not be ruining my Hardcam shot.” in response to a Beyond Wrestling post promoting the show tonight.
Beyond Wrestling published a Thursday article:
“I have suspended Jon Roy, our executive producer, indefinitely and immediately. In our code of conduct, derogatory language is not tolerated. I’ll discuss this further as soon as my schedule permits.”
Roy has since apologized to the fan he was referring to, as well as to others affected by his comments. He said that he didn’t mean his comment to come across as transphobic, but he understands how it was perceived.
“I made a joke that was inappropriate at the expense someone who did not deserve it. It wasn’t intended to be transphobic, but there’s no disputing that’s the way it came across. And hurt people I didn’t intend to hurt. No excuse. I don’t hate anyone for their differences …”
“But it hurts when something that I’ve worked hard to build is attacked because of things outside my control. I retaliated unfairly.” I understand that everyone who has blocked me is doing so for a reason. Continue to shite on me, I understand that too.”
“All I ask you to do is continue to support wrestlers that work hard every single week.” It was wrong what I did, but you shouldn’t take it out on the whole company because that will only hurt those who depend on this income.
“I’m sorry, Ry. You have done me no harm. I don’t expect forgiveness. Congratulations to those who threaten violence. You’ve done nothing.”
