Christian Cage says Jon Moxley was a major factor in bringing Christian Cage to AEW.

Cage returned to ring for the men’s Royal Rumble match in 2021, but was not under WWE contract at the time. He told Chris Van Vliet recently that he had some discussions with WWE but “never went as far as numbers” or anything like that. When Moxley learned that Cage wasn’t under contract, he told Cage he would be an “idiot” if he did not reach out to Tony Khan.

“A friend of mine called me, Jon Moxley. We were talking, and when he learned that I wasn’t under contract, he was shocked,” Cage said. “And he told me that you should talk to Tony Khan,” Cage said. I was like I don’t even know. He said, “Well, you’re an idiot if don’t. You hold all the cards.” He said that you can choose where you want to finish your career.

Cage is currently doing his best work in AEW, according to many fans, Tony Khan, and Adam Copeland’s long-time friend. Cage says that he has been working as if he had seven years of lost time to make up.

“It was a great gift when I regained my career after seven years of retirement. Cage continued, “It wasn’t enough for me to get it back.” “Okay, it’s back. That’s great. How far can we push this? How far can we push it? I felt I hadn’t accomplished all I wanted to, because I had seven lost years to make up. Was I satisfied with what I achieved? Yes. Did I feel that I had achieved everything I could? Not even close.”

Cage’s promos about the deceased fathers Jack Perry, and others, have been a prominent part of his AEW run. Cage claims he has never cleared his promos or run them by anyone. He saw a chance with them and took it.

Cage said, “I’ve told nobody what I’m going to say.” “Never cleared it with anyone. I’ve never asked anyone, I just do it. In this day and time, it’s important to be willing to take risks that others won’t. I saw a chance that I could take, I took it, and I rode on it. Sometimes things happen that you don’t expect to happen. I said a phrase and it became a wildfire. I just ran with it and embraced it.”

The 50-year old says he hasn’t even thought about a retirement timeline. He believes that he still has three years remaining on the contract he signed in September 2023.

“I always said I would do it until it was no fun. That was my barometer. How can I not have fun right now? I signed a contract, so there is no time frame. I think this contract has three more years to run. We’ll see what happens when we reach the end of this contract. You know, I think I have a great deal of knowledge. I don’t feel like I know everything, but i do know a lot. I feel that I have a different perspective on the business, and I lay out matches and see matches differently from other people. I would like, at some point when the time is right, to give back to the company that has done so much for me.”
