AEW denies disappointment over first WBD TV right renewal offer in todays Wrestling news
AEW has denied a report by Puck on Monday night that said the first offer from WBD for a new TV right deal was disappointing.
AEW sources told him that Tony Khan was not disappointed by the first offer, but that they have yet to come to an agreement. Negotiations are underway with WBD, not TNT Sports, for both streaming and TV.
Matt Belloni, a Hollywood insider with a long history, reported in his Puck report that his sources said Khan was not happy with WBD’s initial offer and that the exclusive negotiation window between the two sides would be coming up soon. He also reported that WBD head David Zaslav, and TNT Sports’ head Luis Silberwasser, both want to keep the three AEW programs.
Some online pointed out that Belloni and WWE CEO Nick Khan have been friends for a long time. Belloni also had Khan on his podcast in the past, which led some to believe that it was a fake article. Tony Khan, when asked about the meeting between WWE and WBD during their TV right negotiations, said that it was “part of sport”.
The current AEW/WBD agreement is expected to expire by the end of this calendar year.
