Tony Khan: I was interested in adding AEW Mixed Tag Team Titles in todays Wrestling news
Mixed Tag Team titles may be added to AEW’s championships in the future.
Tony Khan was asked if the women’s division could add Tag Team or Trios titles during AEW’s post Double or Nothing media scrum. Khan agreed that both would be interesting championships. He also said that he was interested in Mixed Tag Team Titles, which Khan believes would help to set AEW aside from other major wrestling promotion.
Khan praised the strength of the women’s section and said that AEW was focused on bringing it back to its strongest ever.
“Yeah, absolutely. We’ve discussed that [Women’s Tag Team or Trios Divisions], and have discussed a lot of possible additions in terms championships. Khan said, “I think we’re seeing some really strong rivalries between the World Championship and the TBS Championship. And also with ROH – you can’t deny the fact that ROH has some great champions right now.”
“There are a lot of exciting things happening in AEW, ROH and both the men’s & women’s divisions. I think that it’s definitely something that will be very promising in the future. We’re still trying to rebuild the depth to the strongest I’ve ever seen it. In All Out ’21 I was coaching the Casino Battle Royale at a time when we had 21 women competing in this battle royale, as well as a great Britt Bakker vs. Kris Statlander Championship match. I think it was the deepest division ever, from top to bottom. Many of the great players from that match were out or injured and not with us. I think that we’re going gain more and more depth and the division will continue to grow. Both championships are very interesting to me. I think we could also do something different here. I’ve been interested in Mixed Tag Team Championships. I think there are a lot of people who are in agreement. I think many people would also be interested in this. This is different from what other major promotions offer, and I believe that would make AEW stand out. “I’m also interested Mixed Tag Team Championships.”
If Mixed Tag Team titles are ever added, they would pair a woman’s division member with a man’s division member.
