Sami Zayn believes that Vince McMahon’s reign as WWE World champion was more likely during the Vince McMahon years in todays Wrestling news
Sami Zayn believes that the difference in the creative processes of Vince McMahon and Paul “Triple H”, Levesque, is a double edged sword for the booking of his WWE character.
Zayn told Daily Mail that Levesque’s long-term outlook might make it less probable that Zayn will ever become a WWE World Champion. Zayn claims McMahon’s approach was more unpredictable, where anyone could slip on a peel of banana and end up with the World title.
Zayn, however, is still focused on doing his very best and hopes that this will eventually lead him to the World Championship.
Here’s what I think. Hunter may see me differently than Vince, especially in terms of my good character.
Vince was more likely to see me as a bad guy for a variety of reasons. He thought that my irritating qualities made me an irksome person. I believe that Vince’s weekly approach made things more unpredictable. Sometimes the marble would fall into the right hole and you were champion. With Hunter, however, I believe that he has a longer-term view and the chances of you breaking into his vision are slimmer.
It’s a kind of double-edged blade. He may see me in a light that makes it more likely that I’ll be in the mix and win. On the other hand, if I had slipped on a peel of banana, I might have won the title.
I just do my best. I give the best performances that I can, I try to perform as much emotion as I can and tell the best stories that I can. I hope that eventually that gets me there.
Zayn’s goal is to win the World Championship, but he doesn’t live and die by it:
It’s a given that I’d love to win the World Title once before I call my day a wrap, but I don’t live or die by it. It would be amazing, and I appreciate everyone saying they want to see it. I would love to see it, too. I hope it happens. But if it does not, I still thank you for the amazing experience.
Zayn, though he has never held a World Championship on the WWE main lineup, currently holds the Intercontinental title. Zayn won his championship by defeating Gunther last month at WrestleMania. Gunther’s 666-day reign ended with Zayn’s victory.
McMahon was the first WWE president to not be involved in WrestleMania. He resigned in January from WWE and TKO Group Holdings, the parent company of WWE, following the allegations of sexual abuse made against him by Janel Grant.
Zayn defends the Intercontinental Title against Chad Gable, and Bronson in a Triple Threat Match at WWE King & Queen of the Ring on Saturday 25th May in Saudi Arabia. Zayn will first face Gable on Raw next week in a non title singles match.
