It’s Uemura first championship in his career.

Yuya Uemura, a rising star in the NJPW, has won his first championship.

Uemura, 29, defeated Great-O Khan at the Road to Wrestling Dontaku Show in Hiroshima on Saturday to win the provisional KOPW Championship 2024. The match was Rural Revitalization with three different stipulations. Uemura won 2-1 the match of two-out-of three falls.

Uemura won a table match. Uemura won a Mazda tire-carrying contest, and Great-O Khan won a Hiroshima-lemon-eating contest.

Great-O-Khan proposed Rural Revitalization as he tried to defend the KOPW championship in Japan and at smaller shows. O-Khan held the title for over a year.

Uemura returned last October to NJPW after a trip to the United States. He is a member of Just Five Guys, along with SANADA Taichi DOUKI and TAKA Michinoku.

The provisional KOPW Championship will be defended in matches throughout the year, where each wrestler proposes their own stipulation. The stipulation chosen is determined by a fan vote.

The wrestler holding the KOPW at the end 2024 will be declared this year’s official champion. The new champion will be crowned in 2025.
