The move is intended to improve operational efficiency in between promotions.

NJPW and Stardom have made a move to improve operational efficiency between both promotions.

Today, it was announced that Stardom would become a wholly owned subsidiary of NJPW as of June 28. Bushiroad is the parent company of both promotions. In 2019, Bushiroad acquired women’s wrestlers Stardom.

The goal of this reorganization was to “improve Bushiroad’s Sports Unit’s operating efficiency and reduce redundant staff.”

NJPW wrote:

The board of directors of New Japan Pro-Wrestling decided on April 22 that NJPW would acquire all stakes of Bushiroad Fight Co. Ltd., (henceforth referred to as ‘Bushiroad Fight’, due to rename themselves STARDOM Co. Ltd. starting June 28), from the parent company Bushiroad Inc.

Chris Charlton, NJPW English-language commentary, explains how improved operational efficiency can benefit fans.

This is good news for fans, even though it doesn’t directly affect the front of house. Operational efficiency = no tripping on each other with big events taking place on the same day.

NJPW announced statements from Taro Tanahashi and Hiroshi Okada, the respective presidents for Stardom and NJPW. Okada said:

Since STARDOM became part of the Bushiroad Group, in 2019, we have been working with New Japan Pro-Wrestling to promote our first event together in November 2022. This will include STARDOM matches at the Tokyo Dome and the IWGP STRONG Women’s Championships. With the changes in management and the operating structure of the company over the past four years, it was felt that a stronger relationship between our offices was needed. This announcement is the result. I hope we can come up with new ways to show how impressive Japanese professional wrestling can be. As athletes in both STARDOM rings and NJPW continue to push the boundaries, we look to your continued support.

Tanahashi said:

There is still a great deal that can be accomplished behind the scenes to strengthen the connections between our companies. I’m excited about the opportunity to expand NJPW and STARDOM to a wider audience. From arranging event dates and building reservations so that fans have enough time to see big matches from both companies to improving our promotional efforts, and sponsor acquisition. This acquisition will improve our operational efficiency and speed up the decision-making process, allowing both companies to focus on promoting professional wrestling in Japan and around the world. I look forward to the fans’ continued support for both NJPW & STARDOM.
