WWE announces new Tag Team titles and crowns the number one contender in todays Wrestling news
A-Town Down Under is now the WWE Tag Team Champions.
WWE has renamed SmackDown Tag Team Titles, presented the champions new belts and crowned a new top contender for the titles.
On Friday’s SmackDown episode, WWE CCO Paul “Triple H”, Levesque and SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis gave new title belts to Tag Team Champions Austin Theory and Grayson Waller. Triple H also revealed that the former SmackDown Tag Team Championship would now be known as the WWE Tag Team Championship.
The Street Profits won a four-way elimination match on SmackDown and are now the number one contenders for Theory & Waller’s titles.
The Street Profits’ Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins defeated Angel Garza & Humberto Carrillo as well as Akam & Rezar and Tyler Bate & Pete Dunn in a four-way match to earn the right to face Theory & Waller. The title match has not been scheduled yet.
Friday’s Tag Title rebranding follows a similar change made to the Raw Tag titles in this past Monday’s Raw, where those belts are now known as the World Tag Team Championship.
The SmackDown titles (Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, WWE Women’s Championship, WWE Tag Team, WWE United States), carry the WWE branding. Raw’s titles (World Heavyweight Championship, Women’s World Championship, World Tag Team) carry the World branding.
