AJ Styles will be the first to take on Cody Rhodes.
Two former Bullet Club members will clash for the very first time.
Cody Rhodes, the new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, will defend his title against AJ Styles at Backlash. Styles’ victory over LA Knight in the number one contenders match on SmackDown last night made it official.
Knight vs. Styles was a rematch of WrestleMania forty. Both men won triple threat matches to get to tonight. Styles, who lost at WrestleMania after hitting a Phenomenal forearm, won this match. Styles poked Knight’s eye to win the match.
Styles’ last reign as WWE Champion, which lasted from November 2017 until November 2018, was when he held the World title.
At WrestleMania in 2016, Rhodes defeated Roman Reigns to win the Undisputed WWE Universal Title, ending Reigns’ 1,316-day reign as champion.
Backlash will be held at the LDLC Arena, in Lyon on Saturday, 5th May. This is the first time France has hosted a WWE live premium event. The show will be streamed live on Peacock beginning at 1 p.m. Eastern Time in the United States.

- World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest defends against Jey Uso.
