Cody Rhodes dethroned Reigns after 1,316 days of being WWE’s top champ. The main event at WrestleMania night two was the main event. Undertaker made a cameo in the match as he helped Rhodes repel interference from The Bloodline. Undertaker slammed The Rock with a Chokeslam.
Undertaker was interviewed on his Six Feet Under Podcast about the atmosphere backstage following the match. He said that it was a bit hectic because people came back from different places and at different times. However, there were many emotional moments.
Undertaker praised Reigns’ run as champion. Undertaker explains why he feels the comparison with past eras of WWE is unfair, even though it’s not the longest reign.
There were a lot emotional moments behind the scenes. You can imagine Roman returning and after — what an incredible run as champion. It’s a remarkable run, if you put it into today’s market. It won’t go down as the longest World title run. When you look at the actuality, with as much media coverage, as many exposures that you now have — I mean, it’s hard to compare to [Bob] Backlund and [Hulk] Hogan early runs. They didn’t use social media. They didn’t watch as much live television or they didn’t wrestle on TV at all.
Bruno Sammartino Backlund and Hogan are three wrestlers who have held the WWE World title longer than Reigns.
Reigns hasn’t appeared on WWE TV since his WrestleMania defeat. Last week, the Bloodline was changed with Jimmy Uso being dropped and Tama Tonga joining the group.
