The issue of Sabu not showing up for his Indie Wrestling Hall of Fame Induction has been resolved.
Sabu was announced as a class of 2024 member of the Indie Wrestling Hall of Fame. Sabu didn’t attend the ceremony on Sunday, despite being physically in the same place where it took place. He was at WrestleCon when the HOF ceremony took place.
The ECW legend explained he did not appear at the ceremony as he “changed his mind.” Brett Lauderdale, the GCW promoter, responded that there was no hard feeling and he still regarded Sabu as a person.
In a Thursday night update, Lauderdale revealed Sabu had returned the $300 deposit that he received from the Hall of Fame event. Lauderdale has donated the $300 deposit to the William Way LGBT Community Center, located in Philadelphia.
“Tonight, Sabu contacted GCW and returned the deposit ($300), he received for Indie Hall of Fame. I want to thank/reiterate Sabu’s respect for the gesture. “I’ve decided that I will donate the money to The William Way LGBT Community Center.”
The William Way LGBT Community Center aims to “engage and support diverse LGBTQIA+ Communities in the greater Philadelphia Area through arts & Culture, empowerment, and connections with the community.”
The 2024 Indie Wrestling Hall of Fame was held at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Philadelphia. The event is held annually since 2022 during WrestleMania. The Hall of Fame was presented by Orange Crush and Game Changer Wrestling.
The Briscoes, (Jay & Mark Briscoe), Trent Acid, Steve Corino, Mercedes Martinez, “Hot Stuff ” Eddie Gilbert, and indie superfan Kevin “Whack Packer ” Hogan made up the class of 2024 Indie Hall of Fame.
