Triple H: WWE is competing against itself in todays Wrestling news
The WWE CCO made a subtle jab at failed free-agent signings.
WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H’ Levesque has changed his answer when asked what the competition for his company is. He also shared his views on lost free-agents that could be interpreted as a subtle dig against their work ethic.
Michael Cole, who appeared on The Pat McAfee show on Friday before this weekend’s WrestleMania forty, asked Levesque about the differences between the Attitude Era versus today.
Levesque said that they were fighting for life and spoke of WCW “kicking them in the a**” without mentioning anyone by name.
“We were building against something. We’re facing ourselves right now. We’re against the Attitude Era or the Ruthless Aggression Era. We’re fighting against the absolute best of WWE,” he said, adding that he must make sure everyone is not complacent in order for them to be successful.
McAfee tried to imply, without saying AEW or AEW, how Levesque might be interpreted for his comments on competition. Levesque claimed he was not trying to stir up controversy, and that facts were facts.
Levesque has said that in past interviews, he has always answered “everything” is competition, especially when asked about AEW.
When asked about WWE’s recruiting and signing of free agents, he made a subtle dig at AEW. He said that he has people such as William Regal who help him keep track. He knows everyone in the business and what their potential is.
He said that just because someone has succeeded elsewhere “doesn’t mean they will succeed in big time,” using a college/NFL football analogy.
He then said WWE was “a different game, different world,” and quoted this:
“When I see people who have tried to make it, and then choose the job they get, “Well they work less, their schedule is lighter…okay, then I am glad I didn’t pick you because if your not in it for that grind at that early stage in your career, you don’t belong here.”
