Bryan Danielson wants his friend Cody Rhodes, the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship to win at WrestleMania.
Rhodes will compete in the main events of both nights at WrestleMania forty this weekend. He will team up with Seth Rollins to face The Rock & Roman reigns on night one. Rhodes will face Reigns as a singles opponent on night two. This is the second consecutive year that Rhodes challenges Reigns to a WrestleMania singles match.
In an interview published by Sports Illustrated on Tuesday, Danielson said: “I am very proud of Cody.” “What he is doing is really, really special.”
Danielson revealed that he sent Rhodes a text message before WrestleMania 38 last year, congratulating him and expressing his pride in him. Danielson was “so angry” when Reigns won.
The friendship between AEW’s Danielson and WWE’s Rhodes is not affected by a sense of racial tension. Danielson told Sports Illustrated most wrestlers are happy to have two competing promotions and want the best for their fellow wrestlers.
Professional wrestling is a beautiful thing. There may be animosity or tribalism between fans or those who run companies. But what about the wrestlers themselves? We all want the best for one another. From the perspective of a wrestler, I want to see my friends succeed. They want me to succeed, too.
I want the best for Cody. It’s the same with him. Cody texted after my hour-long battle against Max [MJF] to tell me how much he enjoyed it.
Many friends from WWE have reached out to me and complimented the different things I’ve achieved in AEW. I’ve done it for friends in WWE. I want to see my friends succeed. We like that there are two competing companies. It’s good for the wrestlers and they want each other to be successful.
Danielson and Rhodes were on the same WWE roster in the 2010s, and briefly joined AEW.
Danielson will be facing Will Ospreay in AEW Dynasty this month for the first ever time. Danielson’s dream match is part his final year as a professional wrestler.
