Slim J hasn’t let his AEW release stop him from achieving his goals.
On Monday, several wrestlers had their AEW contracts terminated. In the round of cuts, Slim J, Stu Greyson, Parker Boudreaux Anthony Henry, Jora Johl Gravity, The Boys, Brandon & Brent Tate, ring announcer Dasha Kuret and manager Jose the assistant were all released.
Slim J released a statement Tuesday morning in response to his release. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity he received in AEW, and thanked the fans for their support. Slim J credited Ari Daivari and Caprice Coleman as well as agent Bill Behrens for believing in him.
Slim J, 38, said that while his gimmick at AEW was trash, his work wasn’t. He had a day job at AEW, and he’s not giving up his goal to get his wife and daughter from the “sh*thole” they live in.

Thank you to my fans who supported me. My gimmick sucked. I understand. I knew it. I knew that. I worked on my shoot job throughout both contracts with AEW. My role was to appear rich. In real life, I’ve never been rich. I’ll promise that.
Once I signed, all I wanted to do was get my wife and daughter out of the sh*t hole we live in. I wanted to get my daughter and wife out of this s**thole we live in. They’re by far my everything. I failed. Does it mean I quit. Not at all. I have mouths to feed, and I am broke asf. I’m now looking for a second job. Stop sleeping on my back.
Slim J wrestled in ROH prior to his AEW release. He was a former member of The Trustbusters, a AEW faction in which Boudreaux also belonged. The Trustbusters appeared on AEW Dark.
Slim J began his career in Georgia in the early 2000s.
