Rock will deliver the induction address for his late grandmother.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson will play a role in the WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony on the eve of WrestleMania40, where he will return to the ring.
The Rock announced that he will be inducting Lia Maivia, his late grandmother, into the WWE Hall of Fame for the class of 2024. The induction ceremony will take place in Philadelphia after SmackDown this Friday (5 April). The ceremony will be broadcast live on Peacock at 10 p.m. Eastern Time.
Maivia was a trailblazer in the history of pro wrestling. She was one of its first female promoters. She ran the Polynesian Pro Wrestling Promotion in Hawaii from 1982-1988 after the death of her “High Chief” Peter Maivia.
The Rock’s father Rocky Johnson, and his grandfather Peter Maivia were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by The Rock when they entered it in 2008.
The Rock told the story of his grandmother in his “Young Rock”, a sitcom that aired on NBC from 2021-2023.
The other members of the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2018 are Paul Heyman (with Bull Nakano), The U.S. Express, Thunderbolt Patterson and Muhammad Ali.
The Rock will team up with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins to face Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Saturday in the main event at WrestleMania night one. It’s Rock’s first real wrestling bout since 2013.
Reigns will give a speech as well at the ceremony on Friday night. He’s inducting Heyman to the Hall of Fame.
