Punk also discussed a chance encounter with Vince McMahon.

CM Punk spoke about his return to WWE at Survivor Series and the time frame for his return from a triceps strain he sustained in January. He also discussed Vince McMahon and other topics.

Punk said that the ruptured right triceps he sustained in the men’s Royal Rumble in January is healing much better than the left triceps he suffered in AEW, as the process is “night-and-day” due to AEW having more structure and protocols in place.

He said WWE protects him from himself, in case he returns too early. This he finds “a welcome change.”

“I’m trying to push everything according to protocols for a ruptured tendon in the triceps, but they tell me to put the brakes on.” “I’m just listening to them the best I can,” said he.

Punk said that his eventual return was a “business choice” but it could happen in half the time compared to when he suffered his other triceps injuries.

He confirmed that there was no audible call during the men’s Rumble Match in regards to who was supposed win. He said that it was “real bad on him” after the injury, and while he had an idea of what he could do afterwards, he chose to pitch the promo instead.

When asked about his plan for WrestleMania he said that it had changed a lot, but he still believes it will be him vs. Seth Rollins in the night one main event. He was 100% happy with this.

Return to the return

Punk stated that talks with WWE began on Monday of Survivor Series Week after Nick Khan called him. Initially, they were interested in bringing Punk in for the Royal Rumble but thought he was ineligible due to a non-compete. After he met Paul Levesque via FaceTime to discuss any past issues, and then to talk about business, the ball really started rolling.

Punk said that only a few people (his wife Levesque, Nick Khan and his lawyers) knew about his return and he told his parents on his way to Allstate Arena. He said that he was unaware of any “clues”, which people believed they saw on television in the weeks leading up. (People using a GTS, and saying ‘best to the world’).

He said that he was also “really close” to returning, even before he began his tenure on WWE Backstage. Nick Khan was the driving force behind this.

He said WWE is not the same as 10 years ago. Someone told him that they were glad to see him back and experience what he had helped create when he first went there. He said the atmosphere is “friendlier” and more relaxed.

On “the visit

Punk claimed that Bayley invited him to visit WWE Raw when he was under AEW’s contract. She DM’d Punk after Liv Morgan had helped him find his earbuds while on a flight from Florida. He said AEW staff were not happy about his visit and called him “betrayed”.

“I believe the word betrayed has been used and I just said, ‘Alright man.’ You are allowing men to appear on television and do things. I went backstage just to say hello to friends. Two totally different things. “If you’re going mad about it, fine,” he replied.

The Vince McMahon allegations

McMahon has only interacted with Punk once since his return. He saw the former WWE/TKO Executive Chairman by chance in the gym of the new WWE offices, located in Stamford Connecticut, shortly after Punk’s return. He said McMahon welcomed him “home”, hugged him and told him they should connect someday. They never did.

Punk was surprised that McMahon had left a paper-based trial. He said the allegations were “horrible” and indefensible. He hasn’t even read the lawsuit. Instead, he relies on text messages to get his information. His main concern is for the victims. He was unaware of any of this during his time in the country and compares the situation to the Chris Benoit double-murder/suicide.

He said that he believes the business is better without McMahon.
