Great-O-Khan reclaimed the provisional KOPW Title on Sunday.
He defeated Tanga Loa in the Rural Revitalization in Hamamatsu Match on March 31 Road to Sakura Genesis Event. The match was unique, with a two-out-of-three-falls rule and a 5-minute eating contest for the second fall.
Every pin attempt was worth 1 point in the first round. Loa won the round 9-8.
Hamamatsu’s freshwater unagi, a local delicacy, was originally to be the featured food for the second fall. A late decision led to gyoza, a local delicacy that was substituted for eel.
Loa started to slow down with 30 seconds remaining, and needed sips of a water to continue. After the five-minute mark, officials entered to determine how much eel had been consumed by each wrestler. They awarded the fall to Khan.
The third fall was an strap match. Both wrestlers seemed to be showing signs of overeating during the second fall. Both wrestlers looked as if they could vomit at any moment. Khan would finally hit an Eliminator, and touch all four corner for the win.
The champion addressed the crowd after his victory. NJPW1972.com wrote about his speech:
O-Khan claimed with pride that a new era had begun, in which pro-wrestling was equated to himself. O-Khan said that it all started with Japan and the local areas. He was leading a grass roots campaign to make KOPW the best known and most entertaining title in the world of wrestling. As the loyal subjects bowed down to their Dominator the victorious O Khan took his title to the new ground of conquest.
