Cody Rhodes confirms signing new WWE contract in todays Wrestling news
The new deal was announced near the end last year.
Cody Rhodes has officially signed a new contract to work for WWE.
Justin Walker, of 8 News Now Las Vegas, interviewed Rhodes and confirmed the contract. Rhodes did not disclose the length of his contract, but it extends beyond his 40th birthday. He is currently aged 38.
Rhodes had stated in the past that he intended to retire from ring competitions at 40. Rhodes informed Walker that this is no longer true. Rhodes does not know when he will retire, but he plans to do so gracefully.
Rhodes replied when asked if still planned to retire by 40:
I can tell you that 40’s not an option, just to let you know – and not because I want to give you a big scoop because it has been widely reported – but I signed a new WWE contract. It extends past my 40th birthday.
When it comes time to leave, the plan is to leave without it being a painful experience. Only because I saw him as an old-man wrestling. He loved it, he enjoyed it. But as his son, it was hard to understand. My daughter is going to be three in a few months. There will be a point where I must be at home with her all the time, just as he was with us.
It’s not 40 any more, but I’ll update it. Plus, I’ve hit my prime run late in the season. I forget that I am approaching 40.
Both nights of WrestleMania will feature Rhodes as the main event. On night one, Rhodes & Seth Rollins will face The Rock & Roman reigns in a Tag Team Match. On night two, Rhodes will challenge Reigns to the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
WrestleMania forty will be held at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, on Saturday, April 6, and Sunday, April 7, 2019.
