Zayn will be competing for Gunther’s Intercontinental title at the Philadelphia event.
Sami Zayn, who was in the main event of WrestleMania 39 last year, is grateful for his spot on the WrestleMania card.
Zayn will challenge Gunther to the Intercontinental Championship during WrestleMania. Zayn’s victory in the number one contenders’ gauntlet during Raw on March 11 confirmed their title match.
Zayn told Sportskeeda WrestleBinge that he is lucky to be in the position he is at WrestleMania. Zayn believes that facing Gunther at WrestleMania is the best spot you can have, except for being in one of the top two matches.
I think it is a big deal. Last year, I was in the right place at the right time. I gained a lot momentum and a great deal of steam in the six months leading up to WrestleMania and ended up being the main event. You know, when you accomplish something big in any field – not just wrestling – you always wonder, “Now what?”
It’s sometimes hard to keep up with that, or wonder what you could do to top it. WWE is a great example of how quickly things can move. I’m very fortunate to be in such a good position one year later, challenging the longest-reigning and most dominant Intercontinental Champion. If you’re not in the top, top match, with say, Cody & Roman or The Rock, or whatever, I’d say that this is now the biggest match that you could want to be in. I’m grateful to be in that position, and I am excited about it.
Zayn and Kevin Owens’ feud with The Bloodline culminated 2023, when they defeated The Usos as the main event at WrestleMania night one.
Gunther’s Intercontinental reign has now lasted 650 days. He has been the champion since June 2022.
WrestleMania is taking place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday, April 6, and Sunday, April 7, 2019. WWE has not yet confirmed which night Gunther and Zayn will take place.
