Copeland has spoken to several media outlets in advance of Dynamite From Toronto.

Adam Copeland said that his I Quit fight against Christian Cage on Wednesday in Toronto will be the culmination a 40-year tale.

Both Copeland and Cage began their training with Ron Hutchinson, at Sully’s Gym, in Toronto. They both grew up in Orangeville, and became friends when they were in sixth grade. This week on AEW Dynamite, they will meet in an I Quit Match for the TNT Championship.

Copeland will wrestle in Toronto for the first time since his last WWE match on August 18, 2023 SmackDown. Copeland told The Toronto Sun he thought that his match against Sheamus on that night might have been his last.

Copeland said

When I was playing with Sheamus I thought, ‘This might be it. This could very well be the end, because I am really enjoying all of this at the moment. I decided to wait until I got back home to make a decision. I wanted to get past the emotions and talk to my family to see what they thought.

Copeland also mentioned the importance of the match taking place in Toronto, and not on AEW Revolution since it was “Sting’s night.”

Copeland continued.

The place and the opponent are always important to me. It was a simple decision. It was like “Is this match happening at Revolution?” and my way of thinking is that ‘That’s Sting night’ and they should get all the bells, whistles and gimmicks for his final match. We needed some bells and whistles for this ‘I Quit Match’.

When I looked at the schedule for the show, Toronto was listed and I thought ‘It seems like we should be doing this in Toronto instead of Greensborough. It was a packed show and didn’t require us. We can make it to Toronto, and we can do it right. This has been a similar experience for me. It’s the culmination a 40-year journey.

If you’re going to end a story this long, why don’t you do it in the place where you and your partner grew up?

Copeland spoke to TSN’s Jay Onrait regarding his return to Canada, and how he feels a favorite in every Canadian city.

I’ve always said that Canada is my absolute favorite country. I can live in St. John’s or Victoria and still be treated as if I were a hometown boy. No one else can say that. The guys from the States will have their home city or state, but I’ve got my own country.

Copeland concluded by saying that the most important thing for him in his match against Cage tomorrow is to have fun.

I just want to enjoy myself. It’s all about having fun. I’m proud to say that, after our third match, we were able to create a story involving eight or nine characters that lasted six month. I think it will be a great deal of fun.
