The Undertaker (Mark Calaway), wrestled for the last time when he faced AJ Styles at WrestleMania in 2020 in a cinematic Boneyard Match. Undertaker was questioned about his transition to retirement during a Patreon Q&A session for his Six Feet Under Podcast. Undertaker admitted that he knew he had to retire from the ring but that it would leave a void inside him.
I knew that my time was coming, but I wasn’t ready. I knew that my body could not deliver what my mind and heart wanted to give to the fans. It was a little difficult. You have to keep in mind that I spent over half my life in the ring. Then it’s gone. It leaves you with a huge void. You’re trying fill that void that was a passion and you’re looking for the next passion and what you’re going sink your teeth into. It may be impossible to find something that can fill that void.
The 58-year old Undertaker said that he often leaves a WWE event because he feels a voice inside telling him to get ready to wrestle.
I hope that it will go away eventually. As of right now, it still hasn’t.
Undertaker performed in Australia a one-man performance before Elimination Chamber, last month. After returning from his trip, Undertaker informed his wife Michelle McCool he would be making a comeback in the ring. Undertaker, however, said that he has already talked himself out.
It’s still hard for me. I’m still getting used to it. I may or not have told my wife that I was planning to make a return. I think I have talked myself out of it.
When his cohost told him to not start any rumors about the match, Undertaker confirmed there would be no more matches.
No, there isn’t one more match. It was like — I had just returned from Australia, was tired, and knew I had a bunch of stuff coming up. It was just me being comfortable with it… Don’t anticipate it. There’s no more matches. Don’t even start.
Undertaker joked about how there might have been another match if Sting had not retired.
Undertaker will perform another one-man performance during WrestleMania week in Philadelphia next year.
The most recent appearance of Undertaker in WWE programming was the October 10, 2023 edition NXT. He chokeslammed Bron Breker during the episode.
