Ospreay was featured on the episode of Talk is Jericho this week.

Will Ospreay spoke about his decision to join AEW in an interview with Talk is Jericho.

Ospreay said that AEW was “way better than WWE” in terms of money, schedule and other factors. He also stated that his top priority was to be able to live in the UK.

Ospreay was:

The main reason I wanted to be in England. I know that I won’t be comfortable moving to a new country. I moved to Japan in 2019 and, as much as I loved the country, it wasn’t my home.

Ospreay said that he did not want his wife, wrestler Alex Windsor and stepson to have to relocate.

We have a stepson now, or she’s got a son. I have a stepson now and he has just started school.

If you know the story of (Windsor) and what she’s gone through…the UK scene knows it, but she lost her spouse. It’s hard to recover from losing her husband and being a mom. So, we need to be with her family, her friends, and her social circle.

I couldn’t bear the thought of her being on her own and away from her family. For me, the most important thing was to stay in Britain but also… I want to improve my wrestling because I’ve done everything in New Japan.

Tony has always treated me with respect and trust, no matter how many times I have come here. It was the best decision for me at this time. I’m happy to be here and I look forward to the challenges. It’s a good decision.

Ospreay confirmed that he will be living in the UK, but flies back and forth.

He continued:

If there is a PPV (for example), it’s not worth my time to go home. So I will stay for Dynamite on Wednesday, and maybe there is a Collision the following Saturday. I will stay for that. Then PPV on Sunday, and I will stay for the next Dynamite.

When I was in Japan, I would have stayed in hotels. In the worst case scenario, I could go to Kyle and Skye. They owe them, they lived in my house in 2021. I’ll stay with them.

Jericho asked Ospreay if he had discussed with WWE. Ospreay replied that he had, but AEW’s offer was more appealing to him.

Ospreay was:

AEW offered a better service, including the scheduling and everything else.

It was almost like you could go to WWE and be famous, but the pay is not as good and there’s a different schedule. I admire everyone who does it, but it’s not for me.

Ospreay spoke also about his eight years with New Japan Pro Wrestling, and what he had learned.

Ospreay was:

Bruv. It’s intimidating and scary to go to Japan without knowing any of the language. But I soon found my feet. There were many mistakes made, but it was a great place to grow up and learn about myself as a person, and to learn etiquette, manners, and how to work in a team. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect introduction to the pro-wrestling world. They were so nice.
