Mercedes Mone on leaving WWE: I had to stand up for myself in todays Wrestling news
Mone explains her decision to leave WWE for the first time.
Mercedes Mone has spoken out for the first time about her decision to leave WWE.
The former Sasha Banks sat down with Evan Mack for an interview on the Kick Rocks podcast. Mone, when asked why she’s not in WWE at the moment, explained her decision to leave the company. Mone said it was the hardest decision she had ever made, and also the one she is most proud of. Mone felt a strong urge to stand up for herself.
Mone said that the decision she made changed her life. She can now be everything she has ever wanted to be.
Mone said, “I have nothing but amazing things about WWE.” “I am so grateful for the career they gave to me, and the fans they gave to me. I’m also thankful for the life they gave to me, and the dreams they gave me.”
Mone said that she still has a great deal of work to do in the world of wrestling.
That’s a very big question. This is a very big question. I really believe not only in the universe but also in myself. I believe that a higher light of power is over me. I felt a strong urge to do this and defend myself. It was a difficult decision because WWE wrestling has been my entire life. If people don’t already know, it has been my entire life. It’s the most difficult decision I’ve had to make my entire life. It’s also the proudest. It’s crazy, because I wouldn’t be sitting here living the best version my life and becoming everything I’ve dreamed of. I get to be all that I’ve ever dreamed of and more. You have no idea.
It’s exciting because that moment has changed my life forever. I’m so grateful for that moment. I’m so proud. I’m so happy for Trinity [Naomi]. I’m so proud of how strong we were. Everyone wanted to talk about it, as you said. Everyone wanted to act as if they were there. Everyone acted as if they were in the same room, or that they worked there, were backstage or knew what had happened or what was said. All I know is I handled it with my head held high, like the CEO that I am. WWE is amazing. I’m grateful for the career they gave to me, for the fans they gave to me, for the life they gave to me, and the dreams they gave. So many dreams. All my dreams are mine to pursue and live. I get to do so much more. Like I said, there are many things I want to accomplish in wrestling.
Mone (real-life Mercedes Varnado) & Naomi (Trinity Fatu), who were reportedly unhappy with their planned artistic direction, left WWE in May 2022. They were WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions at the time. After walking out, they were stripped of their titles.
Naomi, who left WWE to become a champion in TNA Wrestling, returned to WWE at the Royal Rumble in January. Naomi is now part of the SmackDown lineup.
Mone has not wrestled since May 2023, when she sustained an ankle injury. Mone will make her AEW debut next Wednesday (March 13) on the Big Business episode Dynamite in Boston.
