Paul Heyman: ‘I carry a significant voice’ in The Bloodline’s WWE creative in todays Wrestling news
Heyman spoke with the New York Post before his WWE Hall of Fame induction.
Paul Heyman, in an interview with The New York Post regarding his upcoming WWE Hall of Fame Induction, addressed the role that he plays in The Bloodline’s artistic process.
Heyman will be a key player in the main events at WrestleMania forty next month. The Rock & Roman vs. Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins will be the main event of night one. On night two, Reigns defends his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Rhodes.
Heyman told The New York Post he has a “significant” voice in the way The Bloodline is presented and portrayed. Heyman does not think he will be satisfied with just being a performer. He must have some input, and this input has been well received and encouraged within WWE.
I have a voice in how I am portrayed and presented. This includes everything from camera angles, music, to storylines.
Roman Reigns gave me the name of the Wiseman as a blessing. This is an acknowledgement from the Tribal chief to his Special Counsel and also a reference to the Grand wizard, Freddie Blassie, and Captain Lou Albano who were the only managers in the Vincent James McMahon era (father of Vince McMahon).
I don’t think I could be a performer. I wouldn’t feel satisfied. I wouldn’t just be satisfied with going out and doing our shtick. I need to be heard. I must have some input. So far, my input has not only been welcomed, but also encouraged and well received.
Heyman said that The Bloodline story is enduring because it is constantly evolving. When he and Reigns joined WWE, they wanted to create a body work that was comparable to some of the greatest television shows.
It’s not about instant gratification or shock value. The Tribal Chief and The Bloodline are the most high-quality products this industry has ever seen. We are aware that great performers have been inspired for generations, such as Bruno Sammartino and Hulk Hogan. Ric Flair, DX Stone Cold The Rock. It’s already been done.
When Roman Reigns, and I, had the chance to work together in August 2020, we were asked to create a body work that could compete with a ‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘The Sopranos’, ‘The Wire’, ‘Fargo’, ‘Breaking Bad,’ the most compelling dramas, with the most riveting antagonists, that anyone has seen. It’s a disruption to what had become a status quo in the sports entertainment industry, and then we are always looking for ways to disrupt that disruption.
Heyman was named the first WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2024 on Monday. The induction ceremony will take place in Philadelphia after SmackDown on Friday, April 5th.
Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE had offered Heyman induction into the Hall of Fame previous years. Heyman declined because he was still active in the wrestling industry. Heyman confirmed this in his interview with The New York Post. He noted that he had declined the honor many times.
Heyman feels that his body of work still needs to be completed and he still has a lot to do, but he decided to accept this year’s induction.
The New York Post reported that “this being the first time Paul ‘Triple H” Levesque is in full charge of the inductions and it being the 40th WrestleMania, he felt the timing was right.”
