Allin wrote a piece for The Players’ Tribune in advance of AEW Revolution.

Darby Allin reflected on his AEW tag-team run with Sting before it ends.

Sting will retire at AEW Revolution on Sunday, March 3. Sting & Allin will defend their AEW Tag Team title against The Young Bucks at the pay-per view in a tornado match.

The Players’ Tribune published a piece on Tuesday in which Allin talked about what working with Sting meant to him. Allin wrote “don’t met your heroes” as a saying which is often true in the world of wrestling. Allin believes that the industry can bring out the worst in people, especially as they are on their way out. Sting hasn’t had that experience.

Sting was so kind to Allin from the very first time they met. Allin described meeting Sting before Winter is Coming 2020:

Cody pulled me aside an hour before the show. He said, “Alright. Sting’s here. I want you to see him before you leave. He then walked me to Sting’s trailer. It all happened so quickly, I barely remembered how nervous I had been. There was no reason to be worried. We began talking through the segment and it was really wild: There was no ego, no big-timing from him, No This is how it will happen, kid. All of that. It was the opposite. He asked me how everything would go down, if I was okay with this, that, and the other, and whether or not it was all cool. We’re talking to a guy that has headlined some of biggest shows, made a lot of money and been on top for longer than I have been alive. He’s coming to this massive return. His main concern is my comfort. A 27-year old nobody who he probably thinks jacked up half his appearance. I was like, WHAT IS GOING ON? This is insane. How is STING so nice?

Allin called this interaction the beginning of an amazing ride. “And now that I know the ride is almost over, it’s safe to say that Sting is that dude,” Allin wrote.

Allin said that he is so happy this retirement match has happened. Allin will remind Sting to enjoy the match before it begins. After the match, Allin will tell Sting to “thank you.”

Man, I realize that this is a very small part of Sting’s career, but I am so happy it is happening. So many men end their careers in the worst way possible. Either they embarrass the business, or it embarrasses themselves, or both. It’s depressing. I’ve said it before — wrestling can be an awful cycle. If there is one last chapter in Sting’s legacy, I hope that it’s the following: Cycles can break. The wrestling industry can treat older wrestlers respectfully and not spit them out on their way out. They can give instead of taking. They can go out gracefully and not like a b*tch.

I will tell Sting before the match the same thing that I have been telling him all along — HAVE FUN. That’s it. This is the only rule. Nothing else matters.

After the match, the only thing left to say is: Thank you.

I met a real hero and I learned that he is a hero to be cherished.

It was a great honor. It’s the best time of my life.

On the February 7, Dynamite episode, Sting & Allin defeated Rick Starks & Big Bill to win the AEW tag team titles.

Sting & Allin are set to appear together on Dynamite on Wednesday as part of the final build-up to Revolution. This is Sting’s last Dynamite as a wrestler.
