Roode has admitted that he will never wrestle again.

Bobby Roode, despite being given the go-ahead to return to WWE’s ring, is focused on his role as a producer.

Roode had two neck fusions in a six-month span between 2022 and 2023. He had a cervical fusion of C5/6 in November 2022, and then a fusion of C4/5 in May 2023.

The 47-year old Roode hasn’t wrestled since a house show match in June 2022 against Omos. Roode revealed that his neck problems were caused by years of wear and tears on the latest episode Insight with Chris Van Vliet. He was injured in 2012, and then again in the Omos match. Roode claimed that he landed incorrectly and it was not anyone’s fault.

Roode revealed he was cleared to return to ring. Roode, who is a WWE producer, is happy to have the opportunity to work in the WWE. Roode has worked in the role since last year.

Ironically, I was just given the green light. The fusion is complete. As far as looking at it from a purely medical perspective, I think it’s okay to get back into the ring. At almost 48, I am quite happy to be working as a WWE producer. This was my goal when I joined WWE almost eight-years ago. And I feel that I’ve had a great run, as they say. I’m happy with what I do now.

Roode said that he would never wrestle full-time ever again.

“Could i do this full-time?” He admitted, “There’s no way I can,” he said. Roode said that his neck injury was bad at three levels. The C6/7 vertebrae were also bad, in addition to those he had surgery for.

When asked if he would like to play one final match, Roode replied:

I’m sure everyone would like one last match. Sometimes, you just have to accept that the wheels will fall off. This is the nature of this sport and industry.

Roode said that he wanted to work behind the scenes when he signed with WWE. However, he felt he had a lot of energy left at the time. Roode is thankful that Paul “Triple H’ Levesque” gave him the opportunity to wrestle.

As I said, it was a game plan. Before I joined NXT, I spoke to Triple H when I first came to WWE. At that time, I was close to 40. So I remember his voice, I was on the phone with him and Matt Bloom, and I remember that he asked me, “So what do you wish to do?” Do you want to coach here? Do you want be a coach?” “Well, maybe that’s what I want to do one day, but I still feel like I have a lot of energy left.” He gave me this opportunity, for which I am extremely grateful. And here I am. I had a good run in NXT, and then a good run on the Main roster. And — it’s what it is. When the wheels fall, they fall.

Roode held the NXT Championship and United States Championship in WWE. He also held multiple Tag Team titles. He was a TNA Wrestling star before signing with WWE in 2016
