Austin hasn’t closed the door to the possibility of wrestling a second time.

“Stone Cold Steve Austin” is not closing the door to competing in the ring.

Austin returned to the ring at WrestleMania in 2022 for his first match in almost two decades. He defeated Kevin Owens during a no holds barred match that was not announced in advance. It was advertised as a KO Show with Owens and Austin.

Austin, 59, did not rule out another match in an interview with ESPN for WWE 2K24.

I said that I would never again get into a ring unless the stars were aligned. For some reason, they all aligned. At 57 years old, I was the star of the first night of WrestleMania. I never thought I would do that. If you had told me this when I retired [in 2003], I would have said ‘You are crazy.’ I’m not going to say no because in this crazy world of sports entertainment, you never say never.

Austin told ESPN he had a wrestler in mind if he did return to the ring. Austin did not reveal who the opponent is.

ESPN wrote:

Austin replied that he knew who he wanted to face in his final career match. Austin did not mention the opponent because he didn’t want to promote the match or put pressure on WWE to make it happen.

Austin responded that a matchup with CM Punk “would be a great matchup.”

I like Punk and I think Punk also likes me – as long as he’s able to take a [Stone Cold] Stunner. [laughs] I consider him to be a good friend, a nice guy and a wrestler with a long career. We’ll see.

Punk was due to face World Heavyweight Seth Rollins, the World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania forty. However, Punk will be out of action until at least May after tearing his triceps during the Royal Rumble. Punk had surgery to repair the injury earlier this week.

Austin told ESPN he loved pro wrestling more than anything he had ever done.

I love the sports entertainment industry more than anything else I’ve done in my lifetime. You get a taste of it and want more. So here I am, a few years later, talking to you about doing it once more. Just talking about it is addictive to me. When I get excited, I will start talking too quickly.

But it won’t happen. But it could.
