Tony Khan’s comments on creating a safer workplace in AEW in todays Wrestling news
The AEW President spoke to Fansided MMA in recent times.
Tony Khan recently detailed what AEW is doing to create a safe working environment for talent and staff.
Khan spoke with Fansided over the weekend and was asked about the recent allegations against former WWE executive chairman Vince McMahon.
He responded:
It’s a great question. I can’t comment on the terrible allegations against WWE right now. I think that’s something people are paying a lot of attention to right now with good reason.
Khan then described what AEW does to create a safe workplace.
For us, first and foremost, is trying to create a safe locker room environment for everybody, women and men. We have a really good bond, I think we have a great lockerroom. And I think everybody knows there’s a support system there. There are a lot of channels. I think everybody feels very good about having a safe place and a safe workplace, and there are people you can talk to. There are people in the office, even on the wrestling side. For us, I think that’s the most important thing. In any office of any workplace, it’s just having a lot of people that will listen and want to make the company a good, safe place to work.
Khan’s comments about creating a safe working environment are similar to those made by Cody Rhodes at the Royal Rumble post-event media scrum. When asked what the company can do to create a safe workplace, Rhodes responded that it might start with having a locker room that feels like family.
Rhodes said
Looking at the future, I don’t know the answer to that. I think somewhere is a basic tenet of this crew from a roster standpoint is very family. Never seen anything like this. Most of the time, wrestling locker rooms are fighting, talking trash about each other, making fun of each other, sandbagging each other, all that nonsense.
This sentiment was echoed by CM Punk in the days following the Rumble. Punk posted a vlog to WWE’s YouTube channel on February 2, describing the company’s locker room as “everything the business is supposed to be.”
Punk said:
I’m very careful about saying, like, where you work is your family. Because I think your family is your family and where you work is your job. But it’s been a great support system. And just certain looks from certain people I get, and then I start crying again, you know? And Cody’s one of them. He’s a great dude.
This locker room is everything the business is supposed to be. It’s everything the business was sold to me as being. And it’s remarkable, and that’s why I’m so sad. I’m not sad I hurt my arm, I’m sad I’m temporarily out of this amazing situation.
