Ashley Massaro accuses Vince McMahon preying on female WWE wrestlers in todays Wrestling news
Vice published an unreleased statement made by Massaro prior to his death.
Before her death, former WWE Wrestler Ashley Massaro made a statement accusing Vince McMahon sexually preying upon her and other women wrestlers.
Vice News published the previously unreleased statement on Friday. Massaro’s attorneys Konstantine Kyros, and Erica Mirabella collected the information in 2017 for a sworn statement in their lawsuit against WWE over the company’s handling concussions. In the affidavit Massaro claimed that she was raped and drugged by someone posing a military doctor at a base in Kuwait in 2006 during a WWE Tour. Massaro said that McMahon had apologized to her for the abuse she suffered, but urged her not disclose the incident as it would damage WWE’s relationship.
Massaro said, “He told me to not let one bad experience ruin their good work.”
Massaro’s allegation that McMahon preyed upon female wrestlers was not included in the sworn statement. Her attorneys “ultimately removed it because it was not relevant to the central claims in her lawsuit, which involved concussions.”
Massaro claimed that McMahon had written promos “with a clear intention to ruin [her] career”, after he tried to get her alone in his hotel room at night. Massaro refused the advance and told McMahon that she was not feeling well.
Massaro added, “In addition, every time I [walked] past him after that night he would make vulgar comments about me that were clearly intended to make me feel uncomfortable.”
Massaro said that McMahon is known for this type behavior. Vice News obtained her statement.
During my time at the WWE, Vince McMahon would make-out with other divas, but he would never pay attention to me. I assumed that I was not his kind. This changed when my Playboy cover came out. I was lucky enough to be allowed on the company jet for a time and stay in the same hotels with the executives so that I could spend more time at home with my daughter. Vince tried to get me alone in his hotel room at night on one occasion, and I felt very uncomfortable. He called my cell phone and the hotel phone nonstop. Kevin Dunn told me to tell Vince that I wasn’t feeling well, and I would see him on television the next day. So I did. Vince began writing my promos immediately after that night. Vince doesn’t write promos for women wrestlers, that is the job of creative, and he wouldn’t normally have written a promotional for me. He did, and he wrote the promos with the clear intent of ruining my professional career. Michael Hayes was the WWE employee responsible for Creative at the time. He asked me, “you’re not telling this, who wrote this?” I replied that Vince had written it. He said, “Well kid, these breaks,” meaning Vince wanted to end the career of my character and ruin my reputation as I was leaving. He is well known for his behavior. He did the same thing to [REDACTED] when she left WWE. After that night, he made vulgar sexual remarks that were clearly meant to make me feel uncomfortable every time I walked by him.
Massaro, 39 years old, committed suicide in May 2019. She was with WWE between 2005 and 2008.
WWE claimed that after her death, McMahon or WWE management was never informed about Massaro’s allegations of rape against the person posing a military doctor.
Edward Brennan, John Laurinaitis’ lawyer, told Vice News earlier this week that upper WWE management knew about the rape allegations. Laurinaitis said that the proper protocol was followed and that there was no cover up.
Vice News reports the Naval Criminal Intelligence Service began an investigation into Massaro’s allegation in early 2019. The investigation was concluded in January 2020. However, no further information has been made public.
