Graves became SmackDown’s main play-by-play announcer.

Corey Graves began a new role as a SmackDown commentator on Friday night.

Graves became SmackDown’s lead play by play announcer for the very first time. He had previously been a color commentary. Graves and Wade Barrett will be the new commentary team. Michael Cole and Pat McAfee, who is returning to Raw, will be the show’s new commentary team.

Graves said that he hadn’t felt this nervous in many years after SmackDown. Graves called his new role an honour and promised to give the fans the best.

He wrote on X.

I haven’t felt this nervous in years. A new role. A new role. A new mountain. There will be bumps on the road. There is still plenty of room to improve. It is an honor to be a lifelong supporter. I will do everything in my power to make you happy.

Paul “Triple H’ Levesque replied by congratulating Graves. Levesque said Graves, and Barrett both did an awesome job.

Carmella said she was proud of her husband on the last night’s episode:

Tonight, this man will be the voice of Smackdown. To say I am proud is an understatement. It is incredible to see someone who had his dreams of being an in-ring performer crushed learn a new craft. It is inspiring to learn a new skill and become one of the best to ever do it. It shows that even when one door closes another can open. He will not only go down in history as one of the greatest color commentators (if you disagree, you are a hater who can fight me), but he is going to change the game by becoming the voice of Smackdown. The best part is that he’s just getting started! I could go on and say how amazing he was, but you get it …..goodluck, baby!

Kevin Patrick and Graves were the SmackDown commentating team before WWE released Patrick last week. SmackDown had a three-man commentary team with Cole, Graves and Patrick before that. Cole and Barrett were Raw’s commentary team prior to McAfee returning.
