Vincent K. McMahon informed the board of directors of TKO Group Holdings, Inc. (TKO) on January 26, 2024 of his resignation as Executive Chair, member of the Board, as well as any other positions, employment, or otherwise, that he held at TKO and subsidiaries, with immediate effect, as of January 26, 2020.
McMahon resigned one day after Janel Grant, a former WWE employee, filed a lawsuit against John Laurinaitis, WWE and him. McMahon is accused of sex abuse, sexual assault and physical and emotional abuse in the suit. McMahon released a later statement denying the accusations. He released a second statement on Friday, announcing his resignation.
McMahon’s statement from 26 January reads as follows:
I stand by my previous statement that Ms. Grant’s lawsuit is full of lies, obscene, made-up incidents that never happened, and is an vindictive distortion. I will vigorously defend myself and clear my name against these baseless allegations.
In order to show respect to the WWE Universe, TKO’s extraordinary business, its board members, shareholders, partners, and constituents, as well as all the employees and Superstars that have helped make WWE the global leader it has become today, I decided to resign my executive chairmanship, and the TKO Board of Directors, effective immediately.
