John Cena has announced that he will retire from WWE by his 50th birthday.
Cena, 46 years old, elaborated on recent comments that his WWE career is coming to an end in a new Entertainment Tonight interview released Tuesday. “That’s a yes. Cena said, “That time is going to come and it will come soon.”
Cena, when asked about the end of his WWE career, said that he had a self-imposed deadline for winding up his WWE run.
“I made a commitment to WWE fans early on because I know what it takes to be a WWE fan. You have to pay for the content, and WWE offers a lot of it. It takes a lot of passion to be a fan. And our fanbase is global and passionate. I never wanted go out there for the sake of it. This year I’m going to be 47. I feel great. I feel great. But I know what’s required to be a WWE performer, night in and out. I don’t want to just do it for the sake of doing it. I want to have the same passion that the fans do, and I want to give them what they give me. The miles on the speedometer tell you, “Hey, this has to be done before 50.”
Cena turns 47 on April 23, 2019.
Cena made the comments about his wrestling career ending as he was promoting Argylle, a film that will be released in cinemas in the United States this Friday, February 2.
During the 2023 SAG-AFTRA Strike, Cena returned to WWE for a two-month run culminating in a loss to Solo Sikoa last November at Crown Jewel.
