Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos ‘super excited’ about WWE Raw TV rights deal in todays Wrestling news

Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos commented on Raw coming to the streaming service next year.
The company released its Q4 2023 earning report on Tuesday. This was the same day that WWE announced they were moving Raw to Netflix in January of next year. Sarandos stated that he was ‘thrilled to bring WWE to Netflix’, highlighting WWE sports entertainment branding.
We are excited to bring WWE live programming around the globe to our members. WWE Raw is sports entertainment and is in the sweet spot of sports business, the drama of sport. We see this as 52 live episodes per week, every year. It fuels our desire for live programming. It is a huge hit with the fans.
WWE has been growing this multi-generational audience for decades. We believe we can continue to grow and serve them. We believe that the WWE has been historically under-distributed beyond North America. This is a global agreement, so we can assist them, and they can assist us in building this fandom around the globe. This deal should also fuel our new and growing advertising business.
Sarandos, when asked if WWE is separate from their $17 Billion programing expenditure, said that it was something that fits into that spending. He compared WWE to Formula One racing.
“The events themselves are the storytelling in WWE. This is a proven format for us and we’re eager to jump in,” he said. “This is sports, which is very close to us, and the deal is long term, so we’re excited about it.”
CNBC’s Alex Sherman, and the Sports Business Journal both reported on Tuesday that the WWE/Netflix contract is for 10 years. It is worth more than $5 billion.
