Wato was scheduled to face SHO in Korakuen Hall at Korakuen Hall, on Tuesday.
Master Wato, a NJPW wrestler, will be out of action for a long time.
Wato was scheduled to face SHO as the semi-main attraction of the Road to the New Beginning show on Tuesday at Korakuen Hall. Wato was on crutches when the event began, and he announced that he had a left knee injury which would require surgery. SHO then attacked Wato using a wrench. SHO taunted Wato, until El Desperado saved him.
NJPW confirmed that Wato’s left ACL was torn. The injury occurred during a tag-team match in which Wato and Desperado lost against SHO & Yoshinobu Kanemaru on January 20, at the New Beginning Nagoya.
Wato said, “I will return better than 100 percent. When I do come back, I will face SHO in a one-on-one match.”
SHO did not wrestle at the Road to the New Beginning event on Tuesday after his scheduled match with Wato was cancelled. Desperado retained his IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title against Kanemaru in the main event. SHO attacked Desperado in a backstage post-match interview and said he would be challenging Desperado for his championship next.
