R-Truth was afraid that he’d lose his career and require an amputation due to complications from his quad tear in 2022.
Truth revealed the complications that he experienced after quad surgery while appearing as a guest to the Cheap Heat podcast. Truth had a hole in his knee caused by an infection. If they couldn’t get it under control, they were considering an amputation. Truth spent about four to five months trying to get rid of the infection. She was able to avoid an amputation.
Truth replied when asked if he ever feared that his wrestling career would end:
Yes, there was indeed a period. I mean, there was a hole in my leg. A hole. I had five different types of bacteria that caused an infection, including MRSA, staph and their cousins.
It began as a normal quad tear. In fact, I tore the bottom quad. They went in – I suppose it could have happened while surgery – but I went to remove the stitches and that’s when I found out the bacteria, infection, was eating the inside out. I remember that the doctor never gave me a high five. He said, “We’ve got to get this under control.” If we can’t control this, I’m going to have to consider other options.
He told me straight out: “You’re in big trouble.” We need to get this under our control. It wouldn’t heal. It wouldn’t heal.
So I had to wait three months and I had to get a wound VAC. It was a VAC on my leg that sucked up the old blood and put the new blood in. I had to wear it for six weeks, along with a PICC. So I had to wear that for eight weeks. After I had done all of that, the stitches began to come out on their own. My body didn’t like the stitches that were coming out of my knee on their own, so I had to have surgery a third time. Third surgery. The infection was still present, so I needed to get a second PICC line.
He said that amputation was an option, but it was not the only one. It took four or five months to try and stop the infection. You know what I mean? To go from doing 24/7 [title] things, running around and doing stuff with my kids to NXT and me and Grayson Waller tearing down the building and doing things, to stopping and getting told this is a big reality check. It was a huge reality check. It was a moment to pump the brakes.
Truth said that he was able to work-out again after his complications. It gave him a boost in his mental health.
Truth tore his quadruple while facing Grayson Waller in NXT, November 2022. He stayed away from WWE programming until Survivor Series 2023.
Since his return, Truth has featured prominently on WWE Raw in a story involving The Judgment Day. Truth has claimed that he is a member of this faction.
Truth celebrated his 52nd Birthday on Friday.
